Over 100 senior academics and researchers from Northern Ireland, Ireland, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Uganda and South Africa met for three days in Queen’s University Belfast on 29 September-1 October for the fifth workshop and conference of the Irish-African Partnership for Research Capacity Building (co-sponsored by Universities Ireland and Irish Aid). Among the keynote speakers were Dr Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland, UN Commissioner for Human Rights and founding President of Realizing Rights: the Ethical Globalization Initiative; Tom Arnold, Chief Executive of Concern Worldwide; and Professor Brian O’Connell, Vice Chancellor of the University of the Western Cape in South Africa. The event was organised by the Centre for Cross Border Studies.
